Welcome to the 2007 WKL Opening Day!
Alrighty then! Opening day is almost here, T minus four days, Saturday, June 2nd, 2007. Sorry I meant to get something out last weekend, but I got to spend Memorial Day weekend with the flu! Sweet, lucky me! We are once again opening the WKL season at University playfield, located at 50th Ave NE & 9th Ave NE in the UW District. It’s real easy to find, just off of I-5. The games start at 1pm, so please be there on time, which in kickballer terms is at least 15 minutes before you are scheduled to play.
At 1pm we open the day with the oldest vs the newest, Pirates (the last original team) vs The Happy Birthday’s (the only new team this year). Don’t count the Happy Birthday’s out as rookies though, they are headed up by league veteran JT, who I am sure fine tuned this team in the weeks leading up to league play.
At 2pm we kick it up a notch with the WNDRFL (the best record in 2006) vs AveRats (the 2006 League Champions). These two teams did not play for the championship though, as WNDRFL got knocked out of the playoffs early by the upstart Keytarded team. Just another example of how you never know where the big red ball is going to bounce next.
At 3pm the matches lighten up with the two most entertaining teams from last year, Varsity vs Ball Deep. If you can make it for anything, come and see the great skits these teams put on.
At 4pm we continue on with Jackass vs Darkside. New Jackass head coach Patrick promises to keep his team sober just enough to finish out the season this year. You know there are always srumdilliumcoius cupcakes at any Darkside match (thanks Heidi, we love you!).
At 5pm the orgy (ordeal) of kickballers ends appropriately with Space Tractor vs Tha Tang. Some have already speculated this could be Space farm equipment vs Space drink, but I think it’s more about Space Thongs (Andy) vs Tha Tang (it sounds sexy).
A few last things to remember bring sunscreen, water, food, beverages. This is a more open playfield so keep yourself and your guests somewhat under control. Always, and I mean always clean up after yourselves. The one thing that will guarantee us trouble with Parks & Rec is leaving a dirty field. Remember this league is always about having fun first, and kicking a little ball second, please arrive with that kind of mental attitude.
